Extracurricular Activities

Band –
- $150 per school year
- 5th grade/1st year attend on Tuesday/Thursday
- 6th – 8th (2nd year and above) attend on Monday/Wednesday/Friday
- Band begins at 7:30 a.m. at West Catholic High School. Students should arrive by 7:15 a.m.
- Parents are responsible for transportation to West Catholic. Students are bused from West Catholic to St. Anthony to begin the school day.
- Band member participate in two concerts each school year: a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert
Drama Club – The St. Anthony Middle School Drama Club has been in existence since the 2002-2003 academic school year. It has now grown to a group of approximately seventy students who participate in practices, rehearsals, and performances. The shows to date are as follows: 2003- Macbeth, The Comedy, 2004 – Annie Jr., 2005 – Honk Jr., 2006- The Music Man Jr., 2007 – Dear Edwina Jr., 2008 – Once On This Island Jr., 2009 Suessical Jr., 2010 - Willy Wonka Jr., 2011- Into the Woods.
Open to students in grades 6-8, the Drama Club puts on a musical each year usually in late winter.
Little Flowers
“Little Flowers Girls’ Club is a Catholic program offered at St. Anthony for girls in grades 1-4 based on learning Catholic virtues through the lives of Catholic saints, Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. …The Club strives to bring the Catholic faith alive and inspire the girls to become authentic Catholic women. Nine virtues are included in each of the three different wreaths or years of study. Odyssey of the Mind
“Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.” (From www.odysseyofthemind.com)
Science Olympiad
“Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events in each division (Division B is middle school; Division C is high school). Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation.” (From www.soinc.org)
Scouts – St. Anthony's sponsors several units in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of Michigan to promote Duty to God and Country. Cub Scouts, for boys in grades 1-5, Boy Scouts, for boys 11 to 17 years old, Brownies, for girls in grades 1-3 and Girl Scouts for girls in grades 3-12.
Student Government – The objectives of the St. Anthony Student Government are to encourage student involvement in school activities, promote pride and respect for our school, develop positive relationships between students and faculty, promote school spirit, encourage high scholarship, and promote service projects.
Yearbook – Jr. High students and parents compile this for the current school year. |
